    Spot on tongue
I have a "U"-shaped spot on my tongue. It is red in the middle and surrounded by a white boarder. This is the fifth one I have had. It is on the top/lateral side of my tongue. I only get one at a time but they are always in the same area. The ones I have had in the past were more rounded and tend to get large (1 cm). I have had this condition for almost two months, no other symptoms. It is not painful at all. They usually last for a week and then go away, and a few days later another one will appear. Any idea what this could be?

    Hi, Cecelia08!

Have you been to a physician to have these things examined, please?

    Thanks!

Yes, I have been to a physician and I was told it might be something viral. I'm currently taking prednisone 10mg but it doesn't seem to be working.

You've posted in the Dentistry forum topic area of this site. Do you think that these things forming on your tongue might be a result of something having to do with your teeth?

    Thanks!

Does it look like this ?:

    Geographic tongue (benign migratory glossitis)

I have no idea. I would change the topic but I don't know how... I am new to this website! Sorry.

I don't think I'd want to take prednisone for geographic tongue. My son gets that one spot at a time. I would talk to my doctor and ask if there was any risk to treating it like it is geographic tongue rather than an unknown virus that you need a powerful steroid to treat... maybe just swishing your mouth with baking soda or maylox would be an alternative.

    Cecelia,
Definitley talk to your dentist about your tongue. You may even want to see an Oral Surgeon, a specialist who deals with these things day in and day out. I agree, it does sound like geographic tongue and there is no need to take prednisone for it! Any abnormality in your mouth should always be checked by a dentist if it doesn't go away within 2 weeks.

    Now see, Cecelia08!

Once flossie has come on board here, you're likely to get the type of answers that will be to your satisfaction!

    Thanks!
