Is it harmful to take 2 ibuprofen 600 mg after a D&C
I just had a D&C last Tuesday and the doctor perscribed me to take Ibuprofen 600mg or Tylenol 3's but the t3's are not working for the pain but the IBU works a little better. My question was if it is safe to take 2 ibu 600's at once so I can have some sleep the pain is mostly at night so would it be bad if I took it an hour before I go to bed to ease the pain

This is from the Ibuprofen website regarding dosage:

Ok, so what's my ibuprofen dosage?
Adults: 200-400mg every 4-6 hours, no more than 1200mg/day
Children (2-12): 7.5-10mg per kilogram (2.2lbs) of body weight every 6-8 hours, maximum 3 times per day. Do not exceed the adult dosage.
Children under 2: Talk to a doctor.

Ibuprofen usually starts working after about 30 minutes (up to 3 weeks for arthritis).

Ibuprofen is best taken with a full glass of water, and food if possible, unless your doctor says otherwise.

I don't know what you mean by 600mg, but you should follow the above which says it is no more than 400mg.

It is an anti inflammatory medication so that's why it probably works better with you after a D & C, but I would still check with your doctor before you change any pain medication he has suggested.

You may not be giving the tylenol 3s enough time to work.

Well I have taken 2 Tylenol3's every 3-4 hours and its not helping much and they perscribed me the IBU. But the Ibu is working a little bit better then the 2 t'3s but I don't know it it would be safe to take a dose of 1200mg of IBU at one time

It is time to call the doctor back if you are still having so much pain that you want to double your pain meds.
