Working as 1099 on F1 OPT?
    Hi,

I am on F1 OPT and worked for as a 1099 independent contactor for a company. They gave me w9 form to sign which I did.

Does working as 1099 on OPT considered as employed ?Do I need to inform USCIS about it ?

I worked for one and a half month and earned $700+. How do file income tax return for this?

    Thanks

Yes, you are considered to be employed. If the 1099 job is your OPT, the USCIS already knows about it.

If not, you need to file a tax return to claim the income, probably Form 1040NR with a Schedule C. Working a second 1099 job in addition to your OPT is a violation of your visa, but, given the amount of income earned, it would be considered a minor violation.

Do not bring it to the USCIS' attention, but if they ask about it, be honest about it. Lying to USCIS is the worst thing you can do.
