Hi,

I'm thinking of remodeling my master bath to put in a tub and I have a few questions.

1. In order to accommodate the tub I have to move the toilet about 12' horizontally from where it is now. In the current location, it is sitting back to back with another toilet and both connect to the same 3" sewer pipe via a 3" Tee. The top of the pipe goes to the roof as a vent. If I move the toilet 12' away, can I just use a 1.5" vent or do I need a bigger vent? Or do I even need a vent?

2. If the 1.5" vent is OK, can I just use a 90 degree elbow with a 1.5" inlet?

3. My floor beams are 2x10 and are 16" apart. Will this configuration support the weight of the tub with water and person or will have to do something to strengthen the beams?

Just angle the tee and connect the closet bend and flange. A vent is not
called for.

2. If the 1.5" vent is OK, can I just use a 90 degree elbow with a 1.5" inlet?

Not that you need one but if you did elbos are acceptable as long as the vent has slope back to the drain.

3. My floor beams are 2x10 and are 16" apart. Will this configuration support the weight of the tub with water and person or will have to do something to strengthen the beams?

2 X 10 floor joists with 16" centers should hold anything you care to install on them. I assume there will be a sub floor and floor to distribute the weight .

Tom, you said I don't need an additional vent for the 12 feet moved toilet, would it cause any problems when flushing both toilets at the same time? How can I tell when I would need a vent and when I don't?

Yes, I have a 3/4" plywood sub floor. I'm thinking of putting granite for the floor, will the floor and joists hold for such a heavy load?

If you flushed both toilets at the same time the toilet nearest the vertical drain pipe would vent first followed by the other one, however, if you're leery about the far toilet venting I would install a relief vent.

Floors such as you describe do it all the time. The 2 X 10s are strong enough but the sub floor diustributes the weight and helps carry the load.
