I live in California and printed out my divorce papers online. I filled everything out and went to my local courthouse and filed then had my ex husband served through a process server. That was back in Oct 2009. Now what do I have to do to complete my divorce? Thank you

You have to follow up and get a court date before a judge,who grants you a decree nisi as long as nothing is contested. Is it a straight forward, nothing asked for nothing gained, no children, sort of divorce ?Your ex has to attend to.

Did he agree to the divorce? Have all the external matters been settled? All of that makes a huge difference. You will have a trial at the end and that is after the 6 months of separation. It can get fast tracked but only if all parties agree and so long as its not done under duress.

Did the process server actually obtain service on your husband? A court date should have been set when you filed; did you attend the hearing?
