When taking a urine analysis to get into nursing school, do they test for methadone?
I will be applying to nursing school soon and if I'm accepted, I will need to take a urine analysis. Does anyone know if they test for methadone?

If you intend on being a nurse, then you should not be asking this question if you are a substance abuser.

Who said anything about substance abuse? I have a prescription to this, which I take very small doses of daily. I know the unfortunate stigmas that come with methadone (your reply is a PERFECT example of this) and I feel like this will affect my being accepted to nursing school, even with having a prescription. If you don't have an 'answer' to these questions on this website, then don't post anything, or at least keep your judgement out of it.

Yes it may show up, plus the school will need to be aware of your medical problems

Most Urinalysis testing simply shows general categories of drugs: i.e. opiates, benzodiazapines etc...

So, Methadone will most likely show up.

Since this is a prescription, your best option is to go to the registrar or admitting authority and explain that you are taking medication with a Rx and have a copy of the Rx or if you want to keep the methadone part confidential you could get a letter from your doctor stating you are on a medication that will flag as opiate in testing, but that you have a medical reason for it.

    Hope that helps... good luck!

It all depends on what test your school uses. Mine used a 12 panel test, so then it would show up.

This is something you may want to take up with the Nursing Administrator prior to taking the test.

With only two posts, you are dictating WHO responds, and with WHAT?

You have insulted a respected member who happens to work in that field.

And if you "have a prescription", then what's the worry?
