I replaced the toilet bowl water tank, not the bowl itself and the tank appears to hold less water than my previous one. On almost every occasion, I have to flush the toilet a few times to flush the contents. The flush valve (long white tube) in this one is quite short, restricting the amount of water it will hold. I have a brand new Fluidmaster 507A Flush Valve (the long white tube), which is taller than the flush valve that came with the tank. If I replace the flush valve, it seems it will allow more water in the tank and hopefully giving it a longer flush & force. I appreciate your thoughts.

Sounds reasonable to me...

As long as the new overflow tube doesn't go higher than the hole in the tank for the toilet handle you can make the swap out. If the overflow tube is taller than the hole in the tank for the handle then the water could flow out the hole of the handle if the water feed valve malfunctioned and flood the bathroom so check that out.

Before proceeding just make sure that the chain to the flapper in place now has no more than 1/4" jiggle room before it engages the flapper... that is critical to a good flush. If the flapper and chain are properly working and the flush is still insufficient then you can probably change out the flush valve assembly as you suggested.

Agree with Mark. You can try changing out the flush valve assembly, if its to long you can cut it down so its below the hole for the handle(and also any holes that may be in the back of the tank.} But(and there's always a but) if the toilet is fairly old, the new tank may simply not hold enough water to give a good flush. How old is your toilet, and, was the tank a direct replacement for the toilet, or did it just happen to fit. Is the actuall size of the toilet tank significantly smaller than the original? Only reason I bring this up is this.. if the toilet was originally a 3 to 5 gallon flush toilet, most any newer tank will not work correctly because they are set up to flush 0nly 1.6 gallons.
