I have a lighted doorbell button. The light keeps blowing out. I have to replace the button a couple times a year. Is this common?

Not common no the button is probably low voltage sounds like someone might have put to big of a transformer on it like for example 24 v when a 16v should have been used
The transformer is normally in the closet you air handler is in.. good luck!

Transformer may also be behind the chime box.

In other words, be sure the voltage rating of the lamp in the button is the same as the voltage output of the transfomer.

I know right where the transformer is. This makes sense; the transformer is probably too big. I'll try a smaller voltage one. Thanks!

My Lowe's sells a Heath/Zenith 120VAC 16VAC transformer. If you read the voltage on the transformer the output is 22.0 VAC. Lowe's sells a Heath Zenith Wired Push button that says on the back, do not exceed 16 Volts. I have burned up three dorbell button lights one eery 6 months for the past year and a half. Today I went to Lowe's and they denied anyone returning burned out doorbell buttons. I bought another transformer marked 16VAC and the output is again 22.0 volts. So they are selling transformers marked 16V when the output is actually 22.0 volts and that high voltage will burn up the light in your doorbell button over time. Going to Lowe's tomorrow to draw a diagram for them to explain this problem.

A rated 16 volt transformer will measured over it's nameplate rating because there is no load on it, and to compensate for line losses once energized. Therefore, a measured voltage of 22
Volts is normal, and the problem is with the doorbell. Try an other manufacture of doorbells, and get your money back on the bad doorbells.
