Seeking information on construction of a shower enclosure

First, welcome. Second, no matter how inexperienced you are, we can walk you through each step but your question leaves out too many details to give you all the right info. Is this going to be a tiled pan or just a preformed pan with tiled walls? Is there already plumbing in place? If so, did you tear out a tub or a shower and will it require moving the drain? What size is the drain line? Is this going to be on a slab or over a wood floor? Bench? Recessed niches? Knee walls? Are any of these walls exterior? Is it just a regular shower or a steam shower?

Thanks for the reply. I am still in the thinking stages for this project and really appreciate any info you may be able to provide. In answer to your questions-- This will replace a corner stall shower enclosure that is starting to show signs of age and does is becoming difficult to keep clean. I think the pan will be tiled as the space available doesn't seem to match standard sizes for preformed pans. I also think the present drain location is not standard. Installation is over a wood floor. Would like to have a bench but this is not necessary(Still thinking ). Water supply is along outside wall but this has not been a problem with present installation. It will be a regular (not steam) shower. Thanks again for any help you can give me.

Are you asking how to build a custom tile shower and base? You nwill need skills in carpentry. Tile setting and plumbing. We can walk you through the process but you must have the basic knowledge and tools to continue. Answer Jacks questions and we'll get you started. Tom

Thanks for the reply. As far as skills in the various fields involved in the project I confess that I am somewhat familiar in each of the fields you mentioned. I am by trade a retired mechanical engineer and have, over the years, involved myself in each of the skill areas involved in the project in question. I am not too concerned about the type of work involved but more about fine points of the job to assure that I do not have moisture transfer problems and any other problems that might crop up in such a project. I have a variety of tools available including tile wet saw, table saw, router, etc. I also have available two "younger" sons who are both engineers and are quite capable workers. Again, thanks for the reply and I look forward to hearing from you again. All information will be gratefully appreciated.
