I've been shy before, and I got over it. I did that by being around people that I feel comfortable with, and joining them at group functions. I JOINED conversations, instead of coming up with them out of the blue.
    How old are you?

I think everyone can be shy to some degree. But is it is effecting your ability to be happy then it has become more of a little problem.

Make an extra effort to meet and talk to new people , sometimes even a simple smile can go along way. Start by saying just a few words to the friends / workers you see regularly then over the days try to increase the number of words you direct to them , you will soon be in full flow of conversation.
Talk about things that interest you so you feel more comfortable talking about something you know about.

Sometimes being shy comes from low self esteem, so get out there and start doing the things that you most enjoy , once you begin to build up your own confidence others will be drawn to you and you in return will feel less important.

If you have free time go and join a few evening clubs , you will find others then are interested in something that you are. If you are all new joining then you will not feel the odd one out.

You can always chat to people on online - great practise for when you are face to face with people.

    Good luck x
