I need to know how to tighten my Kohler forte faucet from underneath. It is loose at the base where it connects to the granite countertop. What is " the slender tool like a long socket" called?( someone else described that for Kohler instead of a basin wrench, but that doesn't help me find the right tool) Can I get it an any hardware store, do I need to go to a plumbing supply store, or does Kohler have it's own tool for this??

If a basin wrench won't do it they are likley talking about a proprietary tool made just for Kohler installation. This socket comes with the faucet in the original box. Most plumbers will have one and specialty plumbing supply shops but not places like ACE or Home Depot. If this tool doesn't work you will disconnect the connection to the stud and use a basin wrench or a deep socket may also work.

When you find the tool you need and you can tighten the faucet down I would like to suggest something to you, and that is to loosen the faucet even more than it is and get the base up from the counter top enogh that you could put some double sided tape under the flange before you tighten it back down. If you don't have a place type flange you can do the same it is only a round base.

One more thing, I have found that a lot of these faucets get lose because the spout gets hard to swing back and forth, so check out you spout make sure it will mopve easily, if not do some maintaince on where the spout fits down on the base, this will save you problems in the future.

LetMeTellU didn't take it far enough when he suggested "doing maintenance " on a hard turning spout. Remove the nandle and retaining nut. Pull the spout up and away. Coat the "O" rings and the inside of the spout body with Silicon Jel. Reassemble and test. Good luck, tom
