Obagi Blue Peel Vitamin C Serum Review
So. If any of you know me, I'm always the first one to advise everyone NOT to use any type of chemical peels ESPECIALLY home chemical peels. Well lately there's been a bit of a vitamin c craze going on around the board, so I decided to use a vitamin c serum I found in my mother's cabinet. I thought it was just a regular vitamin c serum (I know I should have read everything more carefully... But I didn't), I noticed my skin started peeling. I thought maybe it was because of the new exfoliating scrub I had started using, so I stopped with the scrub and continued with the serum. Finally I realized it was the serum making my skin peel and not the scrub. So I googled "Skin peeling vitamin c serum" and this site came up: Obagi Medical Products : Pro-C Serum
I went back upstairs to check the bottle and realized I was using the 10% concentration of the blue peel serum. A lot of you know that I went to Africa for the holiday vacation, and thought I avoided the sun as much as possible, I did end up getting about 2 shades darker. So I decided, hmmmmm. Why don't I use this to get rid of my tan. I used a LOT of it. Way more than I was supposed to, even though it was the 10% version for sensitive skin, my skin was peeling like crazy and revealing newer lighter skin. I was so happy. This was like over a process of two days. I'd apply at night with lotion, wake up and scrub up dead skin cells. Then that same day I scrubbed off the skin cells, I should have stopped. BUT I got carried away. I applied MORE of the serum to my recently peeled skin. And it BURNED. I washed it off. And my face was really light and patchy in some areas. I was SO SCARED. I put on a lot of palmers cocoa butter to soothe the pain and walked around the house in sheer terror for about and hour, praying to God I hadn't ruined my face. After about an hour, I rubbed the cocoa butter off, and my skin had settled back down thank God. I didn't have any new skin peel off. I think because it had already peeled? I don't know. I still think it should have peeled off another layer, but it didn't. But what do I know? I'm just thankful I didn't ruin my face! I have a tiny chemical burn like right by my ear, but it's not noticeable, and I have a feeling it will fade in about 2 weeks because I had a similar small chemical burn underneath my chin with this AHA lotion I used a while back.
So all in all. I'd say this is a good product to use. Although it's NOT supposed to be used the way I used it. You're supposed to only use 5-7 drops twice a day (or was it once a day?), and I used literally a fourth of the bottle. Not smart. Lol. But like I said. I got carried away. I did lighten about a shade and a half. The first time I peeled I went up about a shade. The second time I didn't peel but I went up like half a shade. Be CAREFFFFFFULLLL. I'm just glad my mother didn't have the 20% concentration. Imagine me pouring 1/4 of that bottle on my face!! I'd be singing a different tune! HaHaHaHa. But yeah I like my results. I have these two little dots (acne scars) on my left cheek, and they are definitely less noticeable now, and I think my pores got smaller. And my skin looks a lot more vibrant. Woo hoo!
