My hobby is showing dogs and I made lots of friends that way.
You could also try dating sites but tick the 'friends only' box to meet other lonely people in your area.

I know how you feel. I'm in the same boat. There is a website called meetup.com and you can look for groups in your area that have the same interests as you. Hope that helps. *hugs*
