Hi, All!

I'd like to know for various reasons.

What are your opinions about this?

Is there some sort of standard?

Does it vary according to the bread?

Is it according to weight as well as breed?

What about the mindset of certain dogs that forever seem to be always a puppy? I.e. wanting to go under things that are way too low for them. Never seeming to "get it" that they're full-grown. Wanting to sit in the lap of someone, even if the dog might weigh over 80 pounds.

I'm sure that some of you really catch my "drift" here! ;)

I have always thought they were puppies until they were two.
But I think they stay in that awkward teen ager stage until they are too old to act foolish :)
But that's just my opinion.

In my opinion it varies in different breeds.

The smaller the dog the faster it matures.

I don't think any dog under the age of one is considered an 'adult' though.

For small breeds like the Chihuahua I would say 1 year is no longer a puppy as they are fully grown by that age.

For larger breeds like a Great Dane I would say 2 years old as they are are their maximum height but they do not gain weight and body until around 2 years.

This is based on physical appearance only, I have seen many dogs that still act like puppies well into their teenage years.

Clough, they're all puppies. Just ask them.

Just like us old folks still think of ourselves as 22.

Seriously, it is breed dependent. The longer lived breeds, usually the smaller dogs, seem to mature at about a year. Shorter lived, larger breeds seem to be physically mature at around 18 months. Kennel Clubs consider a dog to be adult at one year.

I agree with the bigger breed maturing slower.
I just wanted to share with you about the type of dog who never seems to know his own strength and his size and has a puppy attitude for life.

My friend who is blind had a beautiful working dog (since passed) and he was an Golden Lab.

When Callum had his lead on and was working he was serious,determined and never distracted.He was beautifully trained.

When Callum had his lead off and he was just a dog,he was really an overgrown puppy and this while being in his late teens.

We used to tell him he was 70 and he needed to act his age but he was just one of those happy to be alive dogs!

His enthusiasm knew no bounds and he just loved everyone and loved life ,his wagging tail did more damage than a bull in a china shop.

I think it has something to do with the breed to be forever a puppy at heart.

My 17 year old puppy used to jump on the bed, get under the covers and sleep with his head on the pillow. I would come home from work and find him like that.
They are all puppies to me:D

Daddy went out of town and all hell has broke loose. 3 times yesterday... everytime she shakes her body, POOP is flying:eek: I am sick of cleaning up flying poop!
Shaved her butt this morning and feeding her rice and chicken,. (yes Bingo) Coogle gets the food and loves it :D

When we take a picture, she always looks like we are about to hurt her in some way. She might be scared of the camera, usually she jumps down to lick it, she's a big licker:eek:
