    Husband adopting his wife's daughter
I had a daughter unmarried and her father is not on the birth certificate and has not had anything to do with her in the last 2 years. I am married now and have a child with my husband and he want to adopt my older daughter she is 7. she calls him dad and he supports her.

For the past two years where has her biological father been? I would recommend engaging in a converstation with her father about your wishes. Aks if he wishes to be involved, because if he doesn't there is someone who does. Ask if he is going to be there for her like your husband is. As far as I can tell, he is completely unconcerned about YOUR daughter. Rather than ask his permission, tell him it's your husband is going to adopt her, because every child deserves a father. You have built a new life for yourself and your family, there should be no other reason why you shouldn't go ahead with the adoption. Her B father obviously doesn't care about her.

    1. You get a lawyer.
    2. File for child support.
    3. Get the biological father to relinquish his rights. Many times, if they haven't been involved and haven't been paying support, they're willing to sign in order to get out of child support.
    4. File for adoption.

You can do this without a lawyer, but in the long run, it will be MORE expensive and take MUCH more time.

You've actually made it HARDER to have this happen by not establishing paternity and having child support set up from the beginning. I have no idea why women refuse to name the father on the birth certificate--it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever on whether he has rights.
