Cash missing from wallet after release from jail...
My uncle was release from jail on a probation violation (bench warrant). Upon release from jail he was given a plastic sealed bag withhis personal effects. He was not given the ba until the Sherrif drove him in a seemingly private/personal vehicle and was about to get out of car, thus not in front of property agent. When we got home he open the sealed plastic bag and found his cash was missing. The property intake form clearly states there was cash. He was moved to 3 facilities in 5 days. What can he do to (1) file a report (2) get his money back? How should he approach this? If he has another hearing in 2 weeks, will this affect him?

Some of those agencies may have charged a booking fee. Contact the facilities he was at and ask what he came in with and left with. This should have all been documented.

    Hello lady:

The money is gone. Evidently the cops set it up to rip off convicts in this backwater county. They should be reported to your state Attorney General.

    Hello again, lady:

I see from you other posts that we're not talking about a backwater county here. Therefore, I suggest something OTHER than what your Uncle told you happened, happened.

In larger counties like LA, money is NOT hidden in plastic bags, and the cops DON'T drive the jailbirds home.

Actually, it was in Ornage County, CA. I read the intake form (list of property) that DID state there was cash. And I was sitting in front of him when he opened the sealed plastic bag AND was the person picking him up at the facility where he was released and personally saw the office drive him to the gate (within the jail grounds) in a personal vehicle or at least one that looked like a personal vehicle (a Nissan).

Also, the money/cash was not "hidden" in a plastic bag, but rather his wallet was contained within the sealed plastic bag.. and the money was inside the wallet.

If the money was used to pay a booking charge like stated above by Chettah, would he have not been told of such charge and told it was taken from his wallet?? It seems that scenario would not likely happen. Come on!
