We have a central air/heat unit. It isn't keeping inside warm Why?
The unit has a heat pump. I was told to put it on emergency heat by one person, told to cut it back to 60 and deal with it as it doesn't get this cold in FL often. I am sorry but it is to be 27 tonight and I want some heat. What do I need to do? Emerg. Heat or regular heat? I put a makeshift roof 12 inches over the unit to keep the rain water from hitting it and freezing. I had to get ice off it this morning. Suggestions/help!?

The emergency heat is much warmer, but more costly,, the roof that close to heat pump could be hurting the air flow and hurting you,, it gets to zero where I live,, and no-one needs a roof over their equipment,, if the hp is icing up like from the inside out, you need to get it serviced
