Hello. My spouse and I are moving into a new rental property which has a "utility room" for the washer and dryer. There is a vent for the dryer, but according to the landlord the washing machine has to be connected to the tub faucet. Apparently, former tenants have done this. I do not currently own a washing machine, and plan to purchase a used one. Does anyone know how I would go about connecting a washer to the tub faucet, and is there anything that I should be aware of?

Washing machines have two hoses. One connects to the hot water faucet and the other connects to the cold. The discharge hose will hook over and discharge into the laundry tray. In a utility room there should be a washer hookup but if all you have to connect to is a single faucet on a laundry tray then it becomes a tad more complicated but not impossible. Purchase a two way hose wye and connect the wye to the laundry tray faucet and tie the washer hoses to the other side. You will then have to manually regulate the temperature of the wash water instead of setting the machine to do it. More questions? I'm as close as a click. Good luck, Tom

If your tub faucet has hose threads, Tom's wye is all you need. You could maybe even skip it, by selecting cold water only if the washer allows you to do that. You could still select the temperature you wanted at the faucet. The washer would think it was getting cold water, but the clothes would know.

It is isn't threaded for a hose, I have seen adapters that screw on in place of the aerator, or slip over the faucet.
