Submersible pump is working but we can't get pressure to build to the normal 76psi
We have a well that has been fine for 10 years. The pump that was in there was a 25gallon per minute. We originally installed a pump and it failed right away and was sent back to the manufacturer and it turned out an impeller was installed backwards. They warranty'd it and sent it back to us. In the meantime we had bought this new one (25gpm) and put it in the well. It's been in there ever since. Recently our water has been very irony and then yesterday it stopped. Last night we pulled the 25gmp pump out of the well and it was full of schmeg?. scaly irony stuff. Tested it outside the well and it sounds horrible. We changed to the new pump (warranty one which happens to be a 3gallon per minute pump). We thought the pressure was going up last night because it had gotten up to 38 on the pressure gauge where it comes into the house into the pressure tank. We went to bed at midnight assuming it was just really slow to pump and have the pressure go up. Got up this am and it was only at 30psi - usually it's at 67psi. So we fear we've just maybe burned out that pump. Can't figure out what to do next - go buy a new pump today and install it tonight - take the chance on burning it out - raise it in the well a bit, or pump the well (hopefully this is the last resort)? Any suggestions - we're thinking it may have sucked up some of the schmeg stuff and can't pump up to the proper pressure because it's not working right - I guess we'll know when we pull it up tonight.
    Any suggestions?
