What is appropriate attire - male and female - for a fairly sophisticated 7:00 p.m. January wedding in upstate South Carolina? I assume a long (but not flashy) dress for women. Would Tux or dark suit be the order for the men? Thanks!

Is it a formal wedding? If not I think a tux on a man who is not in the wedding party looks questionable - makes the man look like he IS in the wedding party.

I'd go with a dark suit for the man. Like the long/not flashy dress idea.

Unless the wedding is explicitly black tie, a tux is inappropriate for anyone outside the wedding party. Evening dresses are appropriate after six.
