I thought I was married to a man but he was already married(bigamist) to someone else and now he is doing life without parole for murder of his girlfriend. Do I have to pay for a divorce or am I legally free?

If they were already married for sure, then your marriage is not valid. You may want to talk to a family law attorney and see what you need to either anull or have it made invalid
