I have an 1979 MTD snowblower. The auger works and all but when the cable clutch is depressed to engage the auger when it is released back the cable stays taught and the auger stays engaged. The cable is not broken but will not diengage and will not move forward. Is the cable bad or is the v-belt bad or is it neither.

Here if you give model numbers, often you will be rewarded with parts and/or owners manual links. Often there is a spring involved in the release of tension.
