    Jeep Willys Owners
I have a 1947 Jeep Willys, with a new flathead engine installed in 1953. I have owned it for about 8 years, I haven't changed the oil, I only use it to plow with. I can't figure out where to drain the oil on the Jeep, and if it has a fitler. Anybody with Jeep Willys experience out there that can help me?

There should be a drain plug on the pan, but you won't likely find an oil filter. Oil filters were just catching on during the '50s (cartridge-type). Spin-on filters arrived in the '60s. I saw a 1948 Cadillac that had an engine port for a supplemental filter (plugged), but an oil filter was not standard equipment yet even on luxury cars. It was designed to be a similar set-up to a by-pass filter these days. In the '40s, oil was supposed to be changed every 1,000 miles--even still, engines didn't last long. You own the "Original SUV."

Thanks Texas GM, I will have to look again, I couldn't figure out where the pan was, I didn't see an obvious drainplug on the bottom anywhere.

SUV? :D I can barely fit in it!
