Hi!
My house has a huge firesurround made of fake bricks - it dominates the room and the terracotta 'bricks' clash with my colour scheme. I hate it and want to paint it - can I and what paint should I use? ;)

As for if you can: certainly.
The type of paint you use, though, will depend on what material the fake bricks are made of.
Do you have any extras stashed away that you could take into a Sherwin Williams or other paint store to get their take on it?
They're probably a composite material, but depending on how much plastic is in it will probably be the key factor in determining what type of paint will work best on it.
Forgive me for stepping on Rick's good suggestion but I want to add that if the fireplace bricks have been sealed in some way, while the sample brick hasn't-- you could be in for some difficulty. I wouldn't count on the fakeness of them not requiring handling similar to real brick. If you have such a sample, compare it to the bricks on the fireplace, looking for sheen versus dull, or with touch for smooth versus rough... just to be sure. It would save you a second trip to the paint store from someone who did a lot of second trips! LOL
