The furnace will turn on, motor start, ignitor lights up, nothing flashing on the indicator light but seems to get no gas to it. We have gas service, the gas valve is in the on position, but still nothing. Could it be anything but a bad gas valve?

You will need to check for 24v to gas valve. If you don't get any voltage to the valve, then the problem lies elsewere. How many pressure switches are in the furnace. If there are two, one will allow igniter to lite up, the other will allow gas valve to open(in most cases).
