My mother has a Payne Gas-Pac unit, model PY1P, ser # 0203G31100. It appears by what I am told that the blower motor is roaring and needs to be replaced. The unit was installed in Jan 2003, and she is being told that she should not waste her money on replacing this. She is on a limited income and I am trying to provide long distance help. She is in North Carolina and I am in Tennessee. What are your thoughts? I just don't want to waste money on a unit that may not be worth it. Also, before the roaring, the unit would not shut off. I am used to heat pumps and automatically thought thermostat problems. How would I check this and what else could be causing this? After much research, not shutting off could be control board, exhaust gasket burned out. I cannot locate a diagram or parts list that I can even get part numbers or prices from. If anyone can help with any info, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

The roaring could be as simple as some object has got into the squirrel cage fan,and has it out of balance, coud be the squirrel fan has become loose from the motor shaft,, but at only 6-7 years old I can`t believe that the unite is in bad need of replacement,, should have many more good years left in it.. also make sure the filter is clean

Usually when that noise is so pronounced the motor bearings are shot and the motor will need to be replaced. The days of lubricating most motors are almost over since most of them are sealed units and you cannot oil them without a lot of trouble.

The blower wheel might have also come loose or something might have been caught in the blower wheel like the wiring diagram that is on the back side of the blower motor access door.
