Can three year olds really see monsters?
Tonight as I was putting my 3 year old to bed he kept saying monster momma. And was pointing to the wall beside his bed. However I didn't see anything. My question is, can he really see something or is it his imagination?

Normally it is their imagination, but remember it is as real to them as if there was one there.

And of couse some believe they can see things the rest of us can't,

Either way, you have to deal with it, as if it was real,

We had a monster light ( special flashlight I made to chase monsters away) and a sented item that plugs in, that was a monster alarm and more.

You deal with it at a 3 year old level

It's the vivid imagination of the 3 year old and is part of the growing process. I used an empty bottle of hairspray, filled with water, and labeled "Monster Spray." Every night at bedtime we would go around the bedroom, paying specific attention to the closet, the bedroom door, and under the bed, and spray, spray, spray. Apparently this odorless liquid is toxic to monsters. LOL

In my opinion that just gives them validation that there are monsters. I'd rather persuade them that monsters don't exist, even if I have to fall asleep with them. I understand the diversion technique but I'm looking at the big picture.

I looked at the big picture too. My 23 year old doesn't believe there are monsters, neither does my 21 year old or my 16 year old. Come to think of it... my 7 year old doesn't either. So, it seems to have worked for all 4 of my children.

My 2 year old daughter is obsessed with ghosts and monsters. She refuses to sleep in the spare room at my prents house (which used to be my old room) because there is ghost's and monsters in there. It's not just that room either. I have tried using the "moster/ghost spray" but I think at 2 she is too young to fully comprehend exactly what I am doing. We have been watching monsters Inc (lol) and it seems to calm her down on the monster side of things, but I am still not sure what to do about the ghosts... I have tried sleeping with her all night, leaving the door open, leaving lights on etc etc, but she still will wake up screaming about ghosts. I haven't ever let her watch anything pertaining to ghosts, but God only knows what she may have accidentally seen on a commercial or something like that. The best I can do is talk to her telling her that there is no ghosts, or I tell her to yell "GO AWAY GHOST"! it's kind of creepy, when she is playing in her room, and all of a sudden I hear her yelling this, but it seems to provide a temporary relief for her.
Hope this helps, and if you find anything else that works, I'd love to know!
