My well was damaged the other night. My uncle drove off and ripped the water hose that was attaced to my well and yanked all of my PVC off between the well pump and pressure tank. I replaced the PVC. Then turned the well back on and it would not prime right so I released some air from the pvc and from the pressure tank but now there is next to no water pressure in the house. The pump gauge (mounted directly on top of the pump) reads 40 PSI and the tank pressure reads 35 PSI(when full) I have tried pumping the pressure up in the tank but that seems to do the opposite effect. What should I do? Please help!

Not sure if you primed the pump properly. There is a plug, or possibly a pressure gauge, at the top of the impeller cage on the pump. Remove that, fill with water until it overflows, replace the plug/gauge, and turn it on. Putting air into the tank will not help. Justin, make sure there was not a check valve attached to all the pipe that was dragged away.

There was no check valve on the other PVC. And this morning when I wolk up there was no water in my house. When I walked out to my pump the PVC was detached at a joint and it looks like it separated because of a failed glue joint. So I reglued it and tried to re prime my pump but as of so far I am unsuccessful. I can not get it to prime again and I'm really hoping since I do not know how long it was running unconnected. I really hope I did not damage the pump. But it works when I turn it on but I am not getting it to prime?

Okay change that last reply I added water into my impeller then kicked it on and it primed. I have a slight leak of pressure on my threaded male pvc coupling that attaced the pvc to the pump. I'm going to get that fixed and try the burping of the pump and see if that increases the pressure. I'm confused though... I was reading on other questions about well pressure and they were saying adjust the screws on the box to adjust the pressure or something of that sort. When I did that last night it separated the pvc. So did I increase the pressure too much for the pvc?

It is possible you did, but more likely that the pvc solvent job did not work as planned. Others on this site can give you better advice than I can on that.

You will also want to adjust the tank pressure. Once you have set your switch, note the point at which the pump cuts off. Let's say it's 35#. Then you will turn off and drain the system through a low level faucet. Set the pressure at the top of the tank to 2# below the cut off point. In our example, that would be 33#. Turn the pump back on and you are in business.
