My Kenmore Elite Model 110.16982500 only makes a humming noise and will not drain or spin. Not an appliance guy and would like to avoid paying $200 to have someone come out and pull a switch and make it work... any ideas?

Unplug it and drain it. Lay it down on its back and check for belts and loose wires. I have seen wires break and the motor won't spin.

I had the same problem with my Kenmore washer... Almost bought a brand new washer too it sounds like it's the same problem all I did was drain the water and tipped it over I seen that the Motor Coupling was broke and a piece of it was no longer even there, Bought a new coupling at a hardware store for 20$ installed it myself (Not hard at all just needed a socket set)... A very easy and inexpensive fix... Sure beats buying a brand new washer when mine works perfectly fine... I hope this helps.
