Can't get remote ceiling fan to work
I bought a Hampton Bay remote control ceiling fan with light a couple of months ago. We were replacing a fan that had been controlled by a dial on the wall. The first two receivers burnt out and I called in an electrician to tell me why - apparently the dial on the wall had been messing with the voltage and had burnt out the receivers. He took out the dial and made the flow of electricity continuous (connected wires). He told me that there shouldn't be any more problems.

I bought another remote control kit (Hunter universal) and installed it. When I turned the power back on, the fan turned on (no light) and the remote wouldn't work. HELP!

Do you know the make and model of the original fan or control?

Yes you should not have wired the new fan with the old dial in place, and there is a chance you damaged it. Try hooking up the new fan without ANY receivers and see if it functions as it should.

Also, the fan is a Hunter Bay Romano II. I was reading the directions and it says that it can't be used with a fluorescent light - which this has. What remote systems work with fluorescent lights?

Also, it works fine without any receivers - though it can only be controlled through remote and I can't control the light and fan separately without a remote.

I was actually asking the make of the old fan and it's control, but it's helpful to know the new one as well.

You have to use the Romano II with the remote and receiver that were included with it. You can either return the fan to Home Depot and get another one, or contact Hampton Bay for a replacement. The Hunter remote kit won't work.
