You can get the summary filing of these from the IRS. What about the accountant that did your taxes.

You will NOT be able to get tax transcripts on returns that old; you will need to get actual tax returns from the IRS microfiche records, so you have to pay $$ to get those returns.

The accountant MAY have copies of those returns on record, but 1989 was 20 years ago, well past the legal holding requirement for tax returns by the professional.
