    Replacing tub on slab
Tub is 30+ years old on slab, no access panel.
I can cut an access panel if needed in adjoining closet.
I would bet the drain is corroded and will not unscrew
Can I cut out the internal part?
How do I go about re-aligning new tub drain hole to drain in concrete floor?
Will I need to break up floor and move pipes?
    Thanks

    Hi Jeepit:

You will definitely need to open the access panel in the closet... make it at least a 16" tall and go inbetween studs (16" max.).

Since the tub overflow is 30 years old go around back where the tub waste assembly is and cut out the tub waste assembly... do not cut the plumbing pipes.

Then, if you are lucky, your new tub drain will line right up with the old tub drain... take measurements to assure this and order appropriate replacement tub. If you want a bigger tub then you will need to plan on digging out more of the dirt from the tub box out and will need to relocate the plumbing.

If the new tub drain lines up with the old tub drain assembly then you will just need to install the tub waste and overflow assembly and connect it to the plumbing pipes through the access panel.

Let us know if you'd like to discuss more...

New problem, just found out new tubs are 60 inches, my old tub is 58 inches, any place to get a 58 inch tub?

    Are you sure about that?

I have seen a couple exceptions to the rule Jeepit, but most often when the tile and the wall board were removed that 58" tub turned into a 60" tub overall... :)

Did you count for total removal of walls back to the studs?

    Let me know
