    Towing capacity of 91 sable
    Hello:

A couple of years ago, I had a 91 taurus that had a light duty receiver hitch on it. I have a 2,000 lbs capacity trailer, the trailer weights about 340 lbs.

Well, I blew the transmission on that car. I researched the taurus transmission of that year, and it was said that it was a bad year for taurus transmission. Me hauling a trailer probobly didn't help.

Well now, I have this old 91 sable, which many of you may know, has almost the same body style as the 91 taurus, it also seems to have the same engine and transmission.

Im considered putting a hitch on this car as I have some garbage to haul off, and my trailer is just sitting in the yard collecting dust.
The car has 208,000 miles on it, it seems to run well, and Im wondering if hooking a trailer to this car is a good move. I don't plan to haul anything exceeding a few hundred lbs. plus the weight of the trailer.

In my neck of the woods, we have some steep hills, so this also concerns me. I live on a very steep hill.

I know someone is going to suggest getting a pickup truck. Well, its hard to find a good truck at a reasonable price. All I have now is this trailer, and Id like to make use of it.

Any suggestions. I also have the 94 escort with the 1.9 liter 4 cylinder engine. But the sable has a 3.0 V6. Which do you think is the better choice?

I'm with you. I would use the Sable, but make sure you have recently changed the transmission fluid and filter. For $40 you could install an auxiliary transmission cooler and probably have no problem.
