I have connected a magnavox dvd recorder/vcr combo (Zv427MG9A) using a hdmi cord to my Sharp hdtv. I also have Charter Cable connected to my TV. How do I make the unit record on either side? I need help fast. No matter what I do cannot get it set up correctly. H-E-L-P!!

Do you have basic cable? If you do, then you need to either get a cable box, or a different recorder... one with a tuner in it. This is assuming that you don't have a tuner in this one. Can you double check your model number? Or check the owner's manual to see if it tells you in the specs whether it has a tuner? Most units with tuners also have coax connections on the back.

If it has coax connections on the back (ANT/CBL in/out), then run cable in, then cable out to your TV.
