    20 days to respond
    HELP ASAP!!!
After 41 years, my mother was served divorce papers on the 11th of Dec. with 20 days respond to his ridiculous requsets which would put her at the 31st before a court date is set. He has a lawyer, we cannot afford one at this time. My questions are: 1. Can we (my mother and myself) write something up as a rebutal to his request and file them or do we need a lawyer to do so? 2. Will our response to his requests give us some time to get a lawyer? 3. Is she entitled to 1/2 of his pension and retirement?

You can't afford NOT to have an attorney. If you try going up against an attorney on your own, the chances are you will lose.

You can respond to the court asking for more time to find an attorney.

As to what she is entitled to, that depends on where you they live and other circumstances.

Yes, thank you it does help.
How do we go about responding to the court asking for more time to find an attorney?
Will/can his attorney "object" to us asking for more time?

First, you have no legal standing here. Everything needs to come from your mother or her attorney.

A simple letter to the court asking for a 30-60 day postponement to give you time to find, hire an attorney and prepare a case should be sufficient.

His attorney can protest, but I doubt if he will because a judge will not look kindly on it.

I understand I have no legal standing in this matter, I was getting answers to the questions she had been asking me.
I will pass this information on to her so she can take action.
Thank you for all your help.
