Hi, I have replaced my shower diverter and seat today, The shower is in a 1971 home with 3 handle . I had to order the part online after taking it apart a few weeks ago and finding out that no one has the parts locally. The shower gives me a little water at the shower and large amount of water at the tub spout, The hot water runs out within minutes and this was not a problem until the diverter stopped working. I am beside myself and don't know what could be wrong.The part # I used is identical to the one I pulled out #10L03D sterling by Danco.. Just wondering what else could be done before I have to call a pro
Any suggestions would be great

Did you replace the stem and washer in the same sequence you took them out? Did you over tighten the bonnet packing nut?(see image)

The diverter does not have any effect on the hot water supply. This is as separate problem. Have the heater checked. Good luck, Tom

Yes I did replace exactly like I took them out and wasn't for sure where the clear washer went but tried it two different ways and no difference, The seat came out easily and I did not overtighten any of the pieces in fear that I couldn't get them back out if needed to. I am guessing the bonnet packing nut is the small nut that goes on or comes off first, I didn't tighten too tight, wasn't sure what its purpose was. No instructions on the diverter for installing.. Any ways I have well water and wondering if there could be a mineral deposit somewhere causing a problem?

These are the instructions Danco sent me on how to install, I followed these instructions without any difficulty,

Dear Donna,

1) Turn water off. Failure to do so could cause flooding.

2) Remove old valve assy. And seat.

3) Install new seat. Unscrew old seat. Screw in new seat.

4) Before installing valve assy.:
a) Ensure Bibb screw on bottom of stem is tight.
b) Turn stem left (counter-clockwise) until it stops.
c) Place nylon washer over bottom of assy. And slide up to the tapered flange.

5) Screw valve assy. Into valve body inside wall. Tightened securely.

6) Turn water on. Check for leaks and proper valve operation.If leaks are discovered or the valve does not function properly:
a) Turn the water off
b) Contact a plumber for assistance.
c) Do not use the faucet assy. Until all leaks are stopped as damage may occur

Did they send a diagram? If so would you scan and post it as a attachment. Tom

No diagram, I asked for one and they couldn't give it to me. I actually went to Youtube and they had a video that was very close to what I needed and that's how I figured out HOW to get the old one out and what to do with the seat. Im wondering if it would help to replace all of the washers in the Hot/cold also and see if that makes any difference.. I can take a pic of the diverter that came out of it if that would help.

At this point, it sounds like you have done everything possible to fix this faucet. I hate to say it, but with a faucet this old, your only true option(to make you sleep better at night) is either have a pro into look at it, or just replace the whole faucet assembly with a new one. Its just so hard to diagnose these problems over the net when it appears that you have done all the right steps and it still isn't right. Sorry I can't be of any more assistance(with out having my hands directly on it). Wish you the best of luck and please let us know how things turn out.

SisDJ, if you figure out what the problem is please post it. I'm having the same problem, even bought a second new valve thinking the first one was defective. I'm beginning to think Danco is making a dud part. Thanks.
