    Hi Randomorbit32,
Quite simply, your skin is probably lacking or deficient in melanocytes in that particular region. These are the cells responsible for skin pigmentation. Though there are multiple possible reasons, this can sometimes be caused by a condition known as vitiligo. Depending on the cause, there may be some sort of treatment, though I really don't know a great deal about such.
Do be careful though, as this area of skin may be especially prone to burning.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Take care. :)

Okay, I'm an avid tanner (I know it's horrible, spare me!) and I work at a tanning salon so I know exactly what you are talking about. Surprisingly this is comon for the majority of tanners! It happens to people on the backs of their shoulder blades also. The reason for this is that since you are laying down, your shoulder blades or your tailbone (in your case) may be pressing against the acrylic of the bed and causing a 'pressure point'. Pressure points do not allow blood to flow, cutting off the oxygen flow (since blood contains our oxygen). You need oxygen in order to be able to develop your tan, therefore these areas won't get tan -- as you have experienced.

SO! My advice to you is to flip over during your sessions and lay on your stomach. You can do this the entire time, or half the time. Either way will help you. If your salon offers stand up beds, that would be even better. Make sure to apply lotion to that region also, it will help tan it even faster.

    GOODLUCK!

klarisa yours is the most ridiculous explanation I have heard ever...

Anyway that sort of patch I have on my full left thigh and on the left butt...

It tends to happen to people who unknowingly mix milk /yoghurt with fish and meat .

Certain parts of the skin suddenly drop on the melanin production and it doesn't even get known as vitiligo if you go to a doctor.. I have this since I was 7 and no doctor has been able to cure it for me..

As a result when I am sitting in my shorts.. although I have fair legs anywya.. when someone sees the left thigh they think I'm really very very fair on my legs... but my right leg is significantly darker than this hypopigmented part.. once again its not stark.. so that's not such an issue.

klarisa is correct I have the same problem around the top of my ... where I'm laying on it so do a lot of girls I know... but when I sunbath nude on holiday there is no problem whatsoever the area tans... its just the pressure points from the sunbed... I wouldn't mind it but there's a big difference! Thanks for the flipping over advice klarisa I always feel like passing out in stand up beds xx
