Why does my daughter swim in her clothes
My 12 yr old daughter insists on wearing her clothes when she goes swimming.

Several things, first she is 12, so ask her.

Where is she swimming, since of course in the public pools in my area street clothes would not be allowed.

Next of course as parents, a child does not "insist" on anything, they may say what they would like, but parents tell a child what they are going to do.

I swam in a big shirt over my suit until I was about 16-17. Part of it was embarrassment about showing skin. The rest was to keep myself from getting sunburnt.

At 12, she is probably starting to really hit puberty. Her body is changing and developing and she's becoming more conscious of how she looks. The other girls she knows are changing, too, but they're all developing at different stages and speeds. If she's comparing herself to them, or to older girls, and sees herself as either ahead of or behind them, then she's probably self-conscious.

Ask her, that's the only way to know for sure. It may be something she'll grow out of.
