Is a PVC Drain Waste and Vent (DWV) coupling the same as a coupling for PVC water pipe?

NOPE! See the dimensions linked on this page. Dimensions

No! While All PVC couplings , (see image) Work pretty much the same way. Pressure couplings are built to contain pressure while DWV coupling are not. Doe this answer your question? Tom

Yes, well most of it; I did not know if the couplings had a different depth of glue surface, along with the pressure rating, or if it was marked somehow on the fitting it self. I know that a coupling I've been using for DWV has a 1-1/2" glue surface for 4" PVC. I am in a place that is somewhat hard to get pipe I'm use to using for water which would be a belled end with a compression type seal, but I only have Sch 40 PVC pipe and will need a coupling. Any help on this is appreciative.

Drainage couplings are shorter with less glue surface. Pressure couplings have more glue surface to contain the pressure.
If I were in a tight spot and had to couple two pipes together I'd use a dresser coupling, (see image) Good luck, Tom
