One 40 gallon heater should be sufficient for 3 people. Are you asking how to physically disconnect the bad heater and have just the one recently installed heater doing the whole house?

    Hi there...

It depends how these 2 water heaters are connected. Are they both in the same location next to each other or are they in two, different locations ?

If they are in two different location than there is a chance your house has 2 hot water systems. If you remove one heater than you won't have hot water heater in part of your house.

If they are located next to each other in same location that it is possible to eliminate one heater and use only one heater to service entire house.
