You should be able to play any 360 game on any 360. If your 360 needs an update you can just hook it up online and it should automatically update anything that needs updated. If you don't have online access you can burn update discs from xbox.com from any computer. If it constantly asks for updates and you can't play it might be your hard drive is to full and need to make room for updates. If it keeps up I'd call xbox customer service. You should never have to update your xbox console itself.

Wrong. There are plenty of games that require updating the XBox 360's software. It's not just games that get updates; the dashboard also gets updates and for security/family settings the newer games require it.

To be clear.. I meant you should not have to physically take your console into a store and update to a new console. Sorry to be unclear on what I meant. That is why I said you can burn update discs on xbox.com. Yes you do need to update the system settings/dashboard buy never the physical console it self, that is what the updates are for... as I said above.. (If your 360 needs an update you can just hook it up online and it should automatically update anything that needs updated. Then in that case you are right. Haha. You should not have to ever replace your XBox unless it breaks. :)
