    State select water heater troubleshooting
We have a State Select instant water heater that is about 3 years old. It serves a single small sink in a room that is rarely used. Tonight it started to leak. I unplugged it, shut off the water at the isolation valve and opened the drain valve. Less than 1/2-cup of milky-looking water came out. In cracking the isolation valve a corresponding flow came out of the drain valve. Anyone have any ideas about the probable source of the leak? The top and sides of the heater unit are dry as are the hoses connecting to the faucet.

    Hi Trickmaster:

Most likely the unit is shot. The tank itself is the most common culprit... quite common actually. Check all the connections and then if nothing obvious double check the model number and the serial number by calling the manufacturer (should be a plate on the unit) and check to see if the unit is under warranty. If it is, great, they'll send you a new one. If not, off to the store to pourchase a new unti. I recommend the ISE (insinkerator brand) over the STATE model, but if you change units the connections will vary and cause more work for you.

    Hope that helped!
