Hey guys, don't know a lot about plumbing, but here's the problem. Appreciate any advice:)

We have a ranch house with 2 bathrooms. One of the toilets has exhibited very easy clogs for about a year (with not much more than a little tp) and now the other one is as well. Most recently one clogged and was not plunged immediately. A few hours later, the water level had apparently continued to increase and flooded the bathroom.

One other bit of information is that my wife noticed once that the toilet was bubbling when she was in the shower.

Is this a tell tale sign of a specific problem?

Hi Chris,

"Bubbles" and "Gurgles". They are both indicters that something's going on in your drainage system.
A "bubble" indicates a clogged line while a "gurgle" indicates a blocked vent. Let me explain. When you flush the discharge drains down the pipe until it hits a partial clog. Then it rebounds back sending a "bubble" of air ahead of it. When you flush a toilet or drain a bathtub a suction is created by the water rushing down the pipe. This suction is relieved by a open pipe that runs to the outside called a vent. When a drain's stopped up the pressure has to relieve itself somewhere, in this case your toilet. The noise you hear is the air being pushed through the toilet, (bubble).
The solution would be to snake out both the bathroom lavatory roof vents. Put out enough cable to get to the base and about 20 feet more. Good luck, Tom

I will assume that you must have a septic system and are not on city sewage service?? A little more info, how old is the septic system?? Are the leach fields under water? If city service, did you recently receive a lot of rain that may have flooded the systems.? Any bit of more info will help in getting some answers. --- Ace
