Why is the auxiliary light on my heat pump's thermostat on but it is blowing cold air
I have a RUUD electric heat pump. It was installed in 1994. The unit is set on "heat" and the fan is set on "auto". The auxiliary light comes on on the indoor thermostat but the heat pump continues to blow cold air and the temperature in my home does not warm up. I tried swithching over to Emergency Heat. The emergency light was on and the auxiliary light was on but it did not blow out any air at all (warm or cold). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does this have electric heat as the aux/emergency heat? Possibly the breaker to that heat unit is off or the disconnect is open. The electric resistance heat is not in with the main heat pump power. Check power to that part of the system.

This will start you on the process. The next step would be to check the heat pump controller and/or relays.
