Do you have to register your land contract in Lansing
I was told by a worker in the code compliance office in Lansing that I had to register my property as a land contract through the county. I have a loan on this property and this could jepordies this. I also heard recently through an instructor for a real estate class that this was bs. I need to know what's true.

    Hello darren:

Please do NOT get your legal advice from bureaucrats or realtors. Excons, are OK, though.

It's NOT true, and you are correct that if you register the contract, your loan will be called in.

While contract for deeds are sometimes recorded, this is for the protection of the buyer so the seller may be restricted getting new loans on the property.

It is not common to do so, since the buyer does not own the property till they pay off the contract
