    Dog poops in kennel
Hello, I've recently purchased a miniature dachchund and he is about 13 weeks now. When I am away I keep him in a kennel and 90% of the time he poops in his kennel when Im away. When Im here he does great and goes outside when I bring him. How can I get him to stop using the bathroom in his kennel? Thanks a lot!

Just to clarify, when you say "kennel" are you referring to an animal crate? Or are you talking about an outdoor kennel? Because our family's dogs are in outdoor kennels and we just use a "pooper-scooper" to clean the dog poo out of the kennels.

13 weeks is still only a baby.
How long is he in the kennel?
    How large is the kennel?

A lot of people make the mistake of buying a kennel that will be suitable for a dog at it's adult size when really you need 2 kennels, a puppy size one and later on the adult size one.
The crate needs to be just large enough for the dog to stand up in and turn around easily.
If it is too large the dog will see it as a 'room' not a bed and will usually poop/pee at one end and sleep at the other. By having a smaller crate it eliminates the confusion.

His kennel is kept inside. Hes never in it for more than 4 hours. In reference to the size of the kennel: 17" wide 20" tall and about 23" deep. I used to leave his bed in there for him to sleep on but there's always a mess when I come home. So he now just sleeps in the cage with a toy or two..
