Swapping comination switch for sinlepole switch
I have a single pole switch for the overhead light in the garage. The switch box has only three wires, black, white and bare. The multimeter detects no current between the white and black with switch on and am under the impression that means that both the black and white are hot (if I am understanding other posts correctly). It's my understanding that this is then a switch loop with no neutral wire in the box. Need to bring in a neutral wire to this box.

Am I fortunate that this box happens to be only 1 1/2 feet from the house junction box and maybe I can pigtail to a neutral wire in the junction box and run it to the switch box?

I have no experience with wiring and want to live to enjoy the new freezer which is next to this switch box and a great location for the receptacle.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

    KISS

    I thought I saw this.

Not sure what a combination switch is. A receptacle + switch?

    That's what I'll go on.

You can bring in another say 14/2 with ground into the box from the panel and wire to the switch. Lust remember to break off the tabs.

You could replace the 2 conductor with ground from the light with a 3 conductor with ground.

Your not alloed to pigtail a single wire. Your best option based on what you said is to run a new circuit with say 14/3 from the panel to the freezer.

We can help even more, but yesterday I was shoveling 15+ inches of snow. It's also xmas and it reduces people's time somewhat.

Your supposed to tape the ends of the white wire used in a switch loop to indicate it has been re-coded as a black wire.

Where, exactly can we help eve more?
