My drain broke without me knowing. The strainer was still attached to the shower floor with some surrounding caulk. Water has been running in and around drain pipe creating a lot of moisture underneath the shower floor. Also, a strong lingering odor, I'm assuming from moisture and mold has developed. What choices do I have in fixing this problem. Some plumbers have said the biggest cost is removing the whole shower to install the drain. Is this true?

I read about the Wing tite shower drain. It seems to be the easiest solution. How about the smell? Should I worry about something growing under there or worst a rotting structure?

Pour about 1/2 jug of bleach down under there. That should remove the smell. If you can get under the subfloor to check take a penknife and poke around. Good luck, Tom
