My husband was suppose to recaulk the bathroom today. He pulled out all the old caulking and removed the shelf by the window in the bath tub. Come to find out we have mold behind that wall. The only thing I can think of is the outside backyard faucet is on that very same wall. When you turn it on it continuely leaks behind the faucet. It doesn't matter if you have it hooked to a hose or not. There just isn't that much pressure in the back yard as the front. I guess my question is "How much are we looking at just to replace the rotten wood, wall, etc..? Our bathroom needs to be updated but right now we don't have money floating around but I don't want to just half way do this project and the wall cave in neither. Just curious.

To hire someone to do this for you, you are looking at around 400 to 600 depending upon how much more damage there is. Can your husband do the work himself?

No he can't. My father is good in some areas of this project but not with the plumbing part. He's got me all scared thinking that it will be more like 3000 to 5000. Now Im not sure if he thinks I want to redo and replace tub. All I want to do is just fix it so we no longer have a leak and take out the mold and fix the wall. Course if Im going to do that I might as well replace the tub as well. I just can't see us spending that much money right now.

Have a few local contractors take a look at it and give you a free estimate. Without seeing it, it's hard to give you a good idea of what it might cost.

I was about to remind Sabrewolfe that it's almost impossible togive a estimate without being on the job site by he caught it himself. Follow his advice and get three estimates and go with the one you're most comfortable with.
