Fatima it does sound like it is to strong for you use a lower percentage, but long term usage like a few years of regular usage of HQ can darken the skin

Well, it is stated that prolong use of hydroquinone can lead to a rare disorder called, ochronosis, which is permanent blue, black, or dark brown, especially in people with dark skin. This is one of the may reasons HQ is not looked highly on. Also, HQ is only suppose to be used for no longer than 3 months, then stop use. It's okay to stop for 3 months, and then re-use, but prolong use can cause some side effects in some people, not everyone, it really depends on your skin. Also, where you using sunscreen with hq? If not, the you should have been. Good luck though.

Sorry for the typo, HQ can lead to ochronosis, which is blue, black, grayish or brown discoloring of the skin.

Just like everyone said, you were using a super strong % of HQ. 2-4% is the recommended and approved % by the FDA. Also, HQ suppresses melanocytes, which are cells responsible for producing melanin. Therefore, after you stop usage, those once suppressed cells, can re-gain cell activity, and lead to an increased amount of melanin, (melanin is responsible for producing skin color) which will lead to even darker pigmentation of the skin.

Neo Strata makes a 4% HQ cream the tube is very small and its also very expensive, last time I bought it I paid like $60 for a 30ml tube that I only rubbed on my face. I found that it did not work fast enough for me but it may work well for you. Do a Google search you should be able to find the cream online, through a Google search.
